Move Management Services
Having a compassionate Senior Move Manager as your advocate, whose only job is to make your move as stress-free as possible can change the entire process from stressful to stressless. Each move is unique, and so is our approach. Below are some of the services we provide:
Downsizing and Decluttering
So many people find that once they’ve started downsizing, they really enjoy the process. Being able to share and/or repurpose “things” that haven’t been used in years gives many people a sense of freedom, of being so much lighter. Decluttering may be more about organizing than downsizing, but the end result is often the same, a less-is-best approach to living. Downsizing prior to moving is definitely recommended, as you’ll avoid paying to pack and move unwanted and unneeded items. Advanced planning also gives time to consciously dispose of and repurpose no longer wanted items. So, if you’re planning to move, get started with a downsizing / decluttering plan as soon as possible!
Relocation and Resettling
Relocating is always stressful, even more so when you may not be able to participate very much or at all. That’s where the services of a Move Manager can be extremely helpful. We’ll establish a timeline, assist in selecting a professional mover, assist with packing and be sure all the little details associated with the move are taken care of. If you’re moving locally, we can assist with unpacking and helping you get settled in your new home. We’ll even take away the packing material and help hang pictures if you’d like! If you’re moving outside our service area, we’ll work to find a Move Manager to help you with the unpacking in your new home.
Whole House Cleanout
Many of our clients find themselves moving from their long-time family home with boxes that are filled with decades of memories to a new, smaller house or apartment with very little extra room. This can be a daunting process and one that often requires compassion to deal with tough decisions on what can go, and what needs to be repurposed, donated, gifted, shredded, or disposed of. We also offer an on-line auction, Maxsold, which is helpful in rehoming much of what is left behind. Each client is special, and we can create a plan that is best for you and will leave your current house cleared out.
Aging in Place Consultation
Statistics show almost 90% of adults 50 years and older would prefer to stay in their current residence, yet less than 60% feel that they can. Oftentimes the process of decluttering and interior rearranging will have a big impact on how safe you feel in your home, as will changing out faucets, doorknobs, a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. Sometimes a remodel is required and that’s when you’ll need to decide if it’s financially feasible to stay or determine if it’s time to move. These are just a few options. Yours will be different based on your individual needs, budget and recommendations from your healthcare provider and others. If you feel that any of these of are interest, let’s talk!

Realtor Support
If you are a realtor, consider adding Smooth Transitions NWW to your list of trusted vendors. Many consider the best time to introduce us to potential clients is after your initial listing presentation. Oftentimes older adults and/or their adult children want to sell, but dealing with boxes of decades of memories is just too overwhelming for them to undertake. We can work with the client and/or the heirs to declutter if they plan on staying during the sale, or do a whole house cleanout, help them move and give you the house ready for staging.
Helping Aging Parents Relocate
Conversations with a parent or loved one who is reluctant about moving can be awkward and difficult and thus is often avoided until it’s too late. It may also involve various family members and friends in different locations, thus requiring coordination between all of the parties. As with any major life change, no two scenarios are the same, nor should the approach to that change be cookie-cutter. Having Smooth Transitions as part of that conversation often helps offset moving anxiety as all those involved may feel less overwhelmed.
Life isn’t cookie cutter, and neither are our services.
